In reply to <a href="https://www.storyfirstmedia.com/video-marketing-and-what-it-will-do-for-the-restaurant-owner/#comment-8">Jeff Bach</a>.

Jeff,

Yes, on-line is where the vast majority of people turn when deciding where to dine out.

A major US marketing company conducted a poll and found that as long as people have access to the Internet, (via personal computers, PDA's, iPhones, etc.) they use it to research online before selecting a restaurant. Consumers are looking for menus, directions, reviews by other diners and pricing. A majority of travelers, especially Americans, research local dining options before they ever get on a plane or cruise ship, which means that if a restaurant is not listed online it may never be considered.

Information from a 2007 poll by AIS Media of US consumers, results printed by Restaurant Start-up & Growth magazine (Dec. 2007)

∑ 89% of consumers in the 25-45 age range have researched a restaurant online prior to visiting a restaurant
∑ 57% of these check out the restaurant's website, if they have one
∑ 39% like receiving promotional emails from restaurants, especially for food and drink specials
∑ 33% look for consumer reviews by restaurant customers to help them choose a dining location
∑ 32% consider directions to be important
∑ 28% think that viewing a menu with pricing is important
∑ 24% are just looking for general restaurant information

When a restaurant owner can engage and introduce a potential diner with their story and that of their restaurant via video on-line, people they're giving the viewer a personal experience that is inviting, and makes the decision to choose your restaurant much more desirable and easy.

Hi Dave

Good post. For me it also hit home because I just recently did a video for Zarletti, a restaurant in Milwaukee. It's up on Citysearch now. Of course I am partial because I did the shooting. Aside from the shoot and edit stuff though, I really liked the restaurant, I liked the owner and I liked the urban location. The food was really tasty too. Every time I am in Milwaukee doing a shoot I find myself liking that city more and more.

Time will tell though. Do potential restaurant customers search online before going out for the night? Discovery is the key issue in all of this.
